2-19-13 CAT Trail

Because I worked a long weekend I got a day off on Tuesday and headed out to the CAT trail I like to haunt while it was still a bit warm and before weather arrived.  Even though the snow was only 2 inches deep and the trail hard packed I still need microspikes not to slip on the ice.
There was this crazy ice river down the hillside.  I would need my proper crampons on that.
Sal slipping out of frame.  He was so happy to be off leash and able to run as fast as he could.
The occasional shot of me.  Yep.
There is this rock along the trail with a tree sitting comfortably on top.  There are more than a couple of these kinds of combinations in the woods around here but the white cap of snow made me hesitate and take a picture

Misc Photos from January and February

So in looking back over the chunk of time from 1/19-2/19 apparently I did not do any hikes. The weather has been all over the place and I have had busy weekends with friends, work and my visiting father.
This is of course roof golf in the snow.  It is an acquired yet so much fun taste.
You can also see how close you come to the hole and how much the bounce.
When the snow melts this was the oil slick on all the roads.  Kinda gross and yet so colorful at the same time.
Sal sitting on my chest looking regal.  What a strange dog.
My father came up to visit, he ended up leaving a day early because of the incoming storm which dropped the snow on the cars above in about 24 hours.  Mmmm snow.
At work this sign was put up, so I had to add to it with my drawing below.  What can I say, I am a rule breaker

1-19-13 Mount Philo

Mount Philo is only about 15 minutes from my house and serves as a quick escape when I needed it.  I threw my microspikes in the car and Sal and I went to have some fun.
We climbed up the trails and the snow was either hard packed to almost ice or just ice all together.  The Devil's Chair trail wanders on the base of a cliff with a sharp hill below.
Not necessarily a problem but when the trail requires you to turn down hill it gets tricky.
The actual Devil's Chair of the Devil's Chair trail.  I was surprised but yet I have a feeling I have found it before.

The cloudy and very windy view from the top.  What as not too cold of a day was stripped away to utterly freezing by the wind.
