12-15-13 First Ski Night

Yay snow, yay new ski boots but boo to the darkness when it comes to trying to take pictures.  It was cold  and around 9pm when I got out to the Burlington Country Club but it felt so good to glide again.

12-7-13 Snake Mountain

I grabbed Craig and we headed down to Snake Mountain.  We had a spell of rain which mean that on high  elevation there would be mud, then ice and then nasty snow so we went to a lower elevation with no snow.
It was semi-warm, I think in the 20s.  This pond was still frozen solid though.

Looking towards the Adirondack's.
Craig pensively surveys the land.
Sun does amazing things around here sometimes.
Sal concurs.  He looks far too regal in this shot.  Craig and I had been sitting on the edge of this foundation with an amazing view and I turned and saw him doing this.
The view up from the parking lot.

12-1-13 CAT Trail

Just need to get out and do a short run with Sal on the snow.  Nothing notable to be honest outside of documenting the change of seasons.

11-29-13 Sterling Forest Maple Run

I had been craving Sterling Forest for about a month and finally I was able to get out there.  It was 14 degrees or so, so chilly.
There was around 2-4 inches of snow on the ground.
This helpful map show a little of where we were.  There are a lot of different loops to explore.
Did I mention it was 14 degrees?
So clear and beautiful though.
Yeaaaah, not going anywhere any time soon.

11-17-13 Delta Park I think

Seriously.  Maybe.  I think.  It was cold and I went out a lot of time where I did not even take pictures because it is no easy feat to take of neoprene gloves to operate an iPhone.

11-16-13 Mount Hunger

I have been up various parts of the Worcester Range, but never did the Stowe Mount Hunger approach. At the base it was bare ground and warm, at the top 4 inches+ of snow.
The view was amazing.  I had the peak to myself and unlike my usual quick to the top and back I stuck around.
Selfie are sometimes needed.
Looking East toward New Hampshire I believe, those should be the Presidentials.
The clouds were incredible.  Made an amazing panorama.
The light was just incredible.
See? Not lying, bare ground at the base

11-10-13 An Early Thanksgiving

Most of this blog is wilderness adventures on foot or in boats but I decided to include this anyways.  My sister lives out in California (where I lived for a little) and she managed to get back and our family did an early thanksgiving.
Eagerly awaiting food.
Lighting the candles.
Turkey has arrived.
Soooooo good.
After dinner snuggling.
All of us together

A nice photo from a run

To be honest I am pretty sure this was from a run because the point of view is not right for being in a kayak.  I almost did not post it but it is such a nice shot.

10-27-13 Halloween Pumpkin Carving

There was a contest at work and I made this.  For those not in the tech world, a 404 error is far more menacing than any other mark of the beast.
This is with different lights insides.  I was quite happy with the final result.

10-20-13 Delta Park

Was out trying to surf some waves at Delta Park, and as always the awesome end to a day is the sunset that I get first row seats.
Water temps were around 50 at this point, so not warm in the slightest.

10-20-13 Little River

Whenever I need to get out this is more than often the default.  It is close, usually not too crowded and a comfortable trail run.
And I park right here overlooking this view.  Not bad.
It is hunting season here in Vermont so Sal is dressed to impress.
You can see so far with the leaves down.
Little River was a community before the dam was built.  Scattered throughout are foundations from the 1800s farms and this cemetery with gravestones from before the Civil War.
Another house foundation, this one from around 1870.  The tree was not impressed.
Almost just starting to get tired.
There are also VAST trails, i.e. snowmobile trails, throughout.  These are some of their signs.
Pretty little stream, very cold water.

10-13-13 Delta Park, finally a little waves

With winds from the south at 10-20 knots the waves finally picked up and I grabbed my boat to go and surf some water.  I could only take pictures went I landed on the little sandbar island but I had a blast.
You can sort of see the waves.  It was only clean breaks for an hour or so then it died down again.
 Nice little white caps.
There were 5-7 kite boarders out there.  A couple of times they were close enough to wave.  I am slowly getting better at catching and keeping a wave.  So much fun.

10-12-13 Delta Park

Even though it was calm I had to go out to Delta where the Winooski exits into Lake Champlain.
For almost a half mile out from the shore the water is only a couple of feet deep.  When the winds pick up it gives me waves to play with.  This is a little sandbar island just a bit out.  The birds love it.
You can see here how shallow it is.
 I love the sunsets here.
