6/28/14 Isle La Motte

This is an atypical post as it is not kayaking or hiking.  Patti and I went up to Isle la Motte to drive around (as I have never really explored the islands much).  Most of it was a scenic tour of the Grand Isle coastline but there is were several unique stops along the way.
This is the Saint Annie's Shrine.  It is a collection of religious sculptures.
Including some painted ones.  Saint Patrick I believe.
There is an outdoor space.
They were prepping for a wedding that day.
Plus a sculpture for Samuel Champlain
This is the quarry on Isle La Motte.  While no longer active it contains quite a few fossils.
People stack loose stones around them so you can locate fossils easily.
From its working days...
If you look at this long enough you will start to feel that the picture is not level.  That is because all the lines in the stone are slightly angled upward.
Up on the edge...
I would not want to take a swim in that, and it was a hot day.
There are multiple of these sculptures apparently made by an amateur.  They are spread across multiple locations and have a fascinating amount of detail put into them.
By the local beach there is this strange collection of birdhouses.  All at the same level it makes a strange spread.
